In the entertainment landscape of Nakuru, one name steadily making waves is Milo the DJ, born Keith Milo.

Known for his versatility and crowd command, Milo has carved out a niche for himself as a dependable and dynamic DJ, performing at weddings, concerts, club events, and social functions.

‎‎Milo’s journey into DJing was anything but conventional. Fresh out of high school in 2019, he joined Gee Events and Entertainment not as a DJ, but as part of the set-up crew.

‎‎However, a chance encounter with fellow industry player Githaiga, a bouncer, would soon alter the course of his career.

‎‎"I was encouraged and considered DJing, and that is when I sought mentorship from Gee Events CEO Timothy Gitahi, who took me under his wing and trained me in the craft," he says

‎‎Remarkably, Milo’s transition from trainee to performer was swift. Within a month of learning, he found himself unexpectedly thrust behind the decks at a major school event at Afraha Stadium.

‎‎"Though I was initially tense, I rose to the occasion, marking the beginning of what would become a promising career," he notes.

‎‎Reflecting on that defining moment, Milo credits preparedness, self-belief, and the ability to handle pressure as key lessons that have sustained him in the industry. “You have to trust yourself and always be ready,” he says.

‎‎Over the past five years, Milo has grown his brand while remaining rooted in Nakuru a decision he says is intentional. Inspired by local success stories, he believes it is possible to build a strong brand without necessarily relocating to larger cities.

‎“Nakuru is home. You can still shine from where you are,” he affirms.

‎‎Despite his success, challenges persist, particularly around delayed payments and language barriers when performing for diverse audiences.

‎Additionally, Milo points out a broader issue within the local industry: while audiences understand DJing as an art, they often fail to fully appreciate its value.

‎“Many people still don’t understand why we charge according to our rate card. Even though they know we will deliver quality work, they are often unwilling to pay for it. As a result, some creatives are coerced into compromising their standards, which ultimately affects the entire industry,” he says.

‎Even so, he remains optimistic about the future of Nakuru’s DJ scene, citing an increase in events that showcase local talent.

‎He encourages aspiring DJs to embrace patience, discipline, and passion, emphasizing that success in the industry is built over time.

‎‎As he looks ahead, Milo plans to expand his brand further by releasing mixtapes and performing at more high-profile events.

‎His story stands as a testament to growth, resilience, and the power of mentorship in shaping talent within Nakuru’s vibrant entertainment industry.
